Credentials:

Dr. Turner’s most advanced degree is the Doctor of Psychology degree (Psy.D.).  The aim of this degree is to train clinicians/practitioners.  Thus, Dr. Turner’s course and field work focused on the development of clinical expertise.  Her studies also emphasized the application of multicultural competence to the practice of therapy and assessment.  In terms of personal style, Dr. Turner is described as “down-to-earth” and warm, with a sense of humor.  Her level of dedication to her clients and unwavering commitment to the quality of service she provides has been widely recognized.  She has been described as “vastly ahead of the curve with respect to the ability to build forward moving therapeutic relationships.”

Education & Experience in Assessment / “Testing”:

Dr. Turner completed twice the coursework required for licensure in the areas of psychological and cognitive assessment.  She practiced the assessment of learning disorders at community colleges for three years while a graduate student.  Dr. Turner then devoted two-and-a-half years of post-doctoral training to the practice of psychological and cognitive assessment.  During these years, she assessed children, teens, and adults coping with a wide range of circumstances and presenting problems.  Dr. Turner has been retained by individuals, public and private schools, community service agencies, foster care agencies, and locked facilities for children, teens, and adults coping with emotional, behavioral, academic, and legal difficulties.  Today, Dr. Turner’s private practice is largely devoted to the provision of assessment services.  You can read more about Dr. Turner’s approach to assessment throughout this website.

Education & Experience in the Provision of Therapy:

Dr. Turner has eight years of experience providing therapy to individuals.  Presenting problems and concerns have ranged from mild (e.g. having difficulty adjusting to a new situation) to severe (e.g. schizophrenia that is unresponsive to medical treatment).  Dr. Turner has provided therapy in various settings including community mental health agencies, college counseling centers, and private practice.  Dr. Turner’s training has focused almost entirely on the provision of individual therapy.  For this reason, she does not offer couples or family therapy.  Please click on the Therapy section of this website to learn more about Dr. Turner’s approach to therapy and the kinds of difficulties she currently treats.
