Therapy Services
Dr. Turner accepts individuals for therapy on a case-by-case basis. She generally accepts as clients individuals with some of the following characteristics:
- Life feels “off track”
- A sense of loss of “self” or spirit
- A desire to confront possibility and choice
- Disappointment with respect to important relationships
- A desire to reach personal objectives
- Chronic difficulty with negative self-esteem
- Therapeutic goals extend beyond symptom reduction
As a therapist, Dr. Turner believes in and relies upon an individual’s internal resources for healing and change. This is true even when an individual is skeptical of these resources – either questioning their existence or vitality.
Dr. Turner’s primary therapeutic “tool” is active dialogue between her clients and herself. Via such dialogue, important symptoms, experiences, ideas, and reactions are explored. Clients’ strengths, values, and goals become illuminated and are processed over time.
It is Dr. Turner’s experience that as this process takes place, clients shift their perceptions about themselves, their abilities, and their circumstances in ways that are empowering and fortifying. Pathways to healing and change are identified and clients take it upon themselves to utilize these pathways in day-to-day life.
As a general rule, Dr. Turner does not tell clients what to do. Through the structure of therapy, clients identify areas of needed change and find ways to make these changes happen. This does not mean Dr. Turner is inactive during sessions. To the contrary, she assumes the roles of facilitator, communicative witness, and ally.
While Dr. Turner provides assessment services to children as young as six-years-old, she works therapeutically with older children, teens, and adults. Dr. Turner believes it is important to interview several therapists before making a selection. To assist individuals in accomplishing this goal, she offers a one hour complimentary consultation.
